The Original ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ Are Back

The current nostalgia trend looks set to continue with new reboots and revivals being announced almost every single day. The latest to get the revival treatment is cult eighties cartoon ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’.

Now, technically you could say that everyone’s favourite martial arts reptiles never really went away since there have been live action movies and Nickelodeon are currently showing a new version of the animated series. However, we are talking about the real deal 1980s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles!

In an upcoming crossover event with Nickelodeon, the original turtles voiced by their original actors will be meeting up with their contemporary counterparts.  Cam Clarke (Leonardo), Barry Gordon (Donatello) and Townsend Coleman (Michelangelo) are all returning to reprise their iconic characters opposite the new actors Seth Green (New Leonardo, Sean Astin (New Raphael) and Greg Cipes (New Michelangelo). Meanwhile, Rob Paulsen will pull a double shift since he not only voiced the original Raphael, but also the new Donatello!

What we know so far is that the 1980s turtles will be travelling to the modern day three dimensional version of the TMNT universe so that they can team up with their modern counterparts and take out multiple versions of classic turtles villain Krang. This will make turtles the latest in a long line of shows to add in a ‘multiverse’ element where various versions of the universe can exist at any time.

The crossover episode is set to air on March 27 and will be titled ‘Trans Dimensional Turtles’. If you can’t wait until then, why not take a sneak peak below!
