Pokémon is an animated series based on the incredibly popular Japanese style anime franchise of the same name which encompasses all manner of multimedia and merchandise including video games and the latest augmented reality smash hit Pokémon Go. Pokémon is short for 'Pocket Monsters' in reference to the creatures that inhabit the Pokémon world. It was first broadcast in 1997.
The Pokémon series is split up into five different chapters based on which of the video game versions it draws on for its source material. The most recent instalments have all centred on Pokémon XY. The plot centres on Pokémon trainer Ash Ketchum, a 10 year old boy who travels around with his Pokémon buddy Pikachu, encountering other trainers and Pokémon along the way as he continues on his quest to become a Pokémon master.
Pokémon is one of those rare things that is popular across a wide range of generations! Adults who were fans of the series as children are likely to still watch the series for nostalgia reasons. This goes some way to explaining why the long running series has been able to maintain an impressive 7.4 out of ten rating on IMDB. The series pulls in some pretty impressive ratings and seems to have managed to maintain its popularity over the years.
You will enjoy Pokémon if you were a fan of the franchise growing up in the nineties. You will also enjoy the series if you are a fan of similar series such as Yu-Gi-Oh and Bakugan which have a similar premise to Pokémon.
