Adventure Time is an American animated series created by Pendleton Ward (Bravest Warriors) for Cartoon Network.
In the world of Ooo, which might be our own world some indeterminate time after a nuclear holocaust, twelve year old and last surviving human Finn goes on crazy adventures with his adoptive brother and talking, shape shifting dog, Jake. Finn is a kid with a strong moral compass and a desire for adventure while Jake is a little more willing to bend the rules and just enjoy life. They are surrounded by a wide array of other crazy characters including Princess Bubblegum of the Candy Kingdom, Marceline the Vampire Queen, the often villainous Ice King, and so many more.
The series has received high praise from critics and attracted an extremely serious following among children, teens, and adults. The show combines silly humor, adventurous stakes, and a nostalgic feel that is in turns dark and pleasant. The growing emotional content and incredibly well written dialogue received particular attention. The show was once described as “what you’d get if you asked twelve year olds to make a cartoon and if they were all super geniuses and some of them were Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, and the Marx Brothers.”
The show has had a massive impact on the industry of animation especially in indie corners. Adventure Time has even garnered academic interest for its treatment of gender and its roles in society and fiction.
If you enjoy the fantastic and strange imaginary creations or just like plain old weird adventure, then let Finn and Jake take you on a trip to very distant lands in Adventure Time.
