‘Monsters Of God’ Hires Kwame Patterson

If Monsters of God seems like it is coming out of left field, then join the club! The much heralded series from TNT is a post-Civil War story set in 1867 Texas. The focus is on two ex-cavalry men, better described as an ambitious Colonel and his executive officer. Directed and written by Rod Lurie, TNT is really bringing the story with this war drama.

Garret Dillahunt will play Col. Bill Lancaster, an ex-officer that goes on a bloody crusade to rid Texas of the Comanche. This doesn’t go over well with the local, since there is an understood peace between the tribe and the small town he lives in. Lancaster won’t have it, and is looking to wipe them from the face of the earth- every single member.

In another storyline, his wife Cynthia Lancaster is showing early signs of feminist ideals. She is on a quest of her own, with a strong determination that could destroy her family even more than her husband’s holy war. To put it mildly, they’re one stubborn family!

Where Patterson comes in is his role as freed slave Oatis. Even with their freedom, his family feels like their independence is being stifled. They still work as servants, and earn little respect for whatever hard work they do. While working for the Lancaster’s, Oatis decides to go on a quest of his own to find out who he really is.

Basically the entire show is about people going on their own personal journeys. It’s a This is Us set in the Wild West! The show has promise, it just needs more hours put into the marketing. People can’t watch a show if they don’t even know it is being developed.

What do you think of the premise? Is this a show that has long term potential?
