Amazon is yet to decide on the future of the Looped for Season 2

Canadian children’s cartoon Looped has found a new home for U.S. audiences, exclusively streamed on Amazon Prime Video. This show tells the story of Luc and Theo, two 12-year old best friends. While they enjoy having fun like any two kids their age would, things suddenly change when Luc crashes into Theo’s garage lab on his skateboard. The result is that the boys find themselves in a time loop where every day is Monday, and the day never changes, meaning that they always know what is going to happen before it does. The two take advantage of the opportunity to do whatever they want to, especially at school, where they often get themselves into trouble. The question of #Looped is not how to fix the issue, but how much fun two kids can get into on one Monday?

#Looped is created by Todd Kauffman and Mark Thornton of Neptoon Studios, award-winning veterans in the animation industry. The duo previously put together Grojband. Kauffman also previously co-created Sidekick. @Looped promises the silly and hilarious fun perfect for children between the ages of 6-11. At the moment, there are 52 episodes of the show, each 11 minutes long.

While not quite up to the level of competitors Hulu and Netflix in the eyes of many, Amazon Prime Video has carved out a respectable niche in the streaming service market, partially due to the amount of other benefits offered with an Amazon Prime subscription. However, it is steadily making gains in various areas, including a deal on several HBO series. While @Looped itself isn’t going to make it an equal overnight, it does point out another trend that the service is doing to make itself more appealing: increasing the amount of programming for children.

Providing offerings for families is important for those who choose streaming services as a potential replacement for cable television, and since Looped is a part of a larger buy of kid-friendly shows, it’s clear that this is the channel’s play. In fact, this was confirmed by Josh Scherba, SVP Distribution at DHX Media, who said that he was “thrilled that Amazon Prime members will be first in the U.S. to see our terrific new animated show, Looped. This Amazon exclusive highlights the strong market for DHX’s original content.”
