S7 Started July 16, 2017

One of the most popular television series of this era, Game of Thrones is a fantasy drama based on the George R. R. Martin book series A Song of Ice and Fire, currently airing its sixth season. Known for having no mercy on any of the characters, regardless of how many people are rooting for their survival, the series is about a civil war between noble houses on the fictional continents of Westeros and Essos. The show viewed by millions across the world, and has won literally hundreds of awards since its inception in 2011, following in the wake of the books growing in popularity. For those who haven’t checked out the series, ask your friends about it because there’s a good chance someone will watch it and would be happy to help you to catch up on the past five seasons.

What’s happening in the current season?

The sixth season is venturing into realms that have not yet been discovered by the book, as the series thus far has followed the book series. As the fifth season wrapped up with elements from novels A Feast for Crows, A Dance with Dragons, A Storm of Swords and The Winds of Winter, season six was left open for a lot of original content as well as concepts that have been outlined for future books in the series. It also has a few tie ins to A Feast for Crows and A Dance with Dragons. There is a lot to keep up on in the current season, just as the past because there are so many characters and twisted plot lines. The series doesn’t follow the exact timeline of each of the novels, but the series as a whole which gives them more space for a screen adaptation.

How are people reacting to the show?

Fans of the book are thrilled with the adaptation to screen, finding that the series stays true to its origins in literature. While it does contain some original content, it keeps with the flavor of the series so it works. No detail is left unattended, and it is clear that the writers for the show have no intention of letting their quality slip. They are seeing the series in the same way that George R.R. Martin had envisioned it, which lets the story continue in a way that is fitting, even if they don’t have books to go off of for directions. While it remains a fantasy series, it is portrayed in such a way that people are transported to the world of the #GT. As with anything, there are critics who don’t find the story interesting, or believe it has a hidden agenda, but they are the minority and the numbers don’t lie.
