It is already pretty much accepted that no other television show on Earth can generate the level of buzz that Game of Thrones does year after year. The hype has been even more than usual this year for a variety of different reasons, including the fact that HBO have been exceptionally secretive about the new season – the first that goes totally ‘off book’. It is no surprise then, that when a full length trailer containing new season 6 footage was finally released by HBO this week it had fans rushing to watch it!
The latest information we are seeing suggests that the trailer has broken HBO records! In just 3 days, the red band trailer has pulled in almost 21.5 million views, 8 million of those within the first 24 hours! At the time of writing it had also been viewed on the official Game of Thrones Facebook page a further 27 million times. This points to some pretty great viewing figures for the actual series when it finally airs.
If you haven’t already seen the trailer, then you can check it out below.
The main reason why there has been so much attention given to this new trailer is that season 6 is so highly anticipated by fans of the show. This will be the first time that the HBO adaptation will be ahead of the source material – in fact, it could very well be the first time ever that a tv adaptation has done this! That’s pretty exciting territory to be in. It is also partly to do with the face that HBO have taken the unprecedented step of declining to send preview episodes out for review, so nobody has seen any of the new content other than this trailer!
One thing is certain – this could be the Game of Thrones season where everything changes!
Season 6 of Game of Thrones airs on HBO on April 24.
