This has been a fantastic season so far for Game of Thrones, yet not everyone is thrilled with the progression of the show. Many of the complaints stem from the show departing from George RR Martin’s books and doing their own writing for the show. This was inevitable, as Game of Thrones has surpassed the storylines and many of the plot developments of the books themselves. There has been a noticeable change in pace, characters and screen time this season, and to some people it is jarring.
Nikolaj Coster-Waldau who plays Jamie Lannister on the show spoke out about the criticisms, and seems to understand the frustration of some fans. The fan base is spoiled, but not in a bad way of being spoiled. His acknowledgement of that has calmed the waters a bit, and it also helps that he is a fan of the show. Nikolaj Coster-Waldau also cautions fans to learn to appreciate the buildup, as there is always a reason. Not getting numb to the buildup will make the payoff that much better.
This isn’t the first time Game of Thrones fans have been called out for being spoiled. Novelist George RR Martin dealt with a lot of lip over the years for the gap between writing books in the series of Game of Thrones. The criticisms were so harsh that other authors and writers like Neil Gaiman had to come to his defense! As rabid as fans can sometimes be, the good part about it is that they enjoy the creative works being pushed out to them. Now the only thing they need to practice is a little patience, and join the millions of other fans that are salivating over the final two episodes of Game of Thrones.
Do you think Game of Thrones will have a good finale? What shows will you watch after they go on break?
