Full Throttle Saloon is an American reality television series that showcases the goings on at the largest biker bar in the world, The #FullThrottleSaloon, located in Sturgis, South Dakota. The series made its debut on November 10, 2009 on the TruTV network. There were 5 seasons of the show aired on TruTV, with the final season there starting on December 2. 2013. Early in 2014, TruTV announced that they did not produce, and had no plans to produce, a sixth season. Later, in October of 2014 fans of the show were given some hope when Reelz Channel announced that they would begin airing episodes of FTS. As it turned out though, the new channel only aired repeat episodes from the first five seasons, no new episodes were produced.
On September 8, 2015 a massive and tragic fire all but destroyed the world’s largest biker bar. The bar’s owner, Michael Ballard said that it had been determined that a pinched power cord to one of the keg refrigerators had overheated and sparked, setting fire to cardboard that was nearby, resulting in the massive blaze. At first, the owners announced that they would not be rebuilding the bar because of “financial constraints.”
Much to the surprise of both bikers and fans of the show, an announcement came that a sixth season of #FullThrottleSaloon would be produced and begin airing on the Destination America network. The first show of this short, 4 episode season was to be broadcast on December 1, 2015.
A popular place with bikers in real life, the original FTS was an indoor/outdoor bar covering approximately 30 acres of land. The bar boasted an impressive number of attractions in addition to just beer, liquor and pretty bartenders. There was a motorcycle burn out pit, a tattoo parlor, dozens of individual stores, restaurants, zip lines, several stages and even a wrestling ring. The establishment also had hundreds of cabins that could be rented and, of course, ample parking for thousands of motorcycles.
Sturgis, South Dakota is known for being the annual gathering place for hundreds of thousands of bikers during the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, which takes place each year during the first full week of August. The #FTS was generally open for business from late March or early April until sometime in November, as permitted by weather. Their busiest time, of course, was during the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, when they could see upwards of 20,000 customers in a single night.
The fate of the series is still up in the air. With several changes in networks, and of course the fire at the bar, it’s difficult to say if another season will be produced, and if so, when it might come about. Although the owners originally said that they would not rebuild the bar, it was announced in the fourth and final episode of that sixth season that they would indeed attempt to rebuild The #FTS. This is great news for patrons of the bar and bikers all over the country who couldn’t believe what they were hearing when the news came out that the iconic bar had burned.
No announcements have been made about a new season yet, but it seems logical that the shortened sixth season’s ending was meant to be a build up to some kind of new beginning. Obviously, new episodes might take
