Criminal Minds Season 13? Fate still up in the air

Release Date of #CriminalMinds S13: To be announced

Police procedural crime drama Criminal Minds is currently in the midst of its 12th season on CBS. The show is set mainly at the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU) based in Quantico, Virginia. It chronicles the work of a group of FBI criminal profilers, who use behavioral profiling to try and catch various criminals, all while dealing with the effects of this difficult job on their personal lives. Unlike many other shows in the genre, rather than focusing on the crime itself, this show pays special attention to the criminal, known as the unknown subject or “unsub.”

The show’s ensemble cast has undergone several changes since its inception, and to date, it consists of Thomas Gibson, Matthew Gray Gubler, A. J. Cook and Kirsten Vangsness. However, this will mark the final season for Thomas Gibson as Aaron Hotchner, after being let go from the show following an on-air altercation with a producer. How do you feel about Gibson leaving the show, and how do you think the show will end the character’s story? Aisha Tyler’s Dr. Tara Lewis is being promoted from a recurring to a featured character moving forward, and Adam Rodriguez and Damon Gupton will be two new additions to the cast.

Some of the stories for episodes in the season so far are realizing they are dealing with a character from their past they try to catch a group of serial killers having escaped from prison, as well as JJ breaking down while attempting to catch a child abductor who likes to burn their victims alive.

#CriminalMinds has always been a ratings star for CBS, and while critical reviews were initially mixed, viewers loved it the whole time. Some critics have come around as well. In fact, the show’s popularity led to two spin-offs, #CM: Suspect Behavior and #CriminalMinds: Beyond Borders. The emphasis on the psychology of the criminals, while not entirely accurate, instantly separates the show from other procedural offerings on television, while creating addictive TV, similar to how an emphasis on sex crimes bolstered Law and Order: SVU. The strong ensemble cast has also earned praise.
