Usually the more hated a reality show is, the more successful the ratings. This is true for Chrisley Knows Best, which is currently one of the most hated, critically lauded shows on the network. It’s also one of the most talked about in social media, which is why USA has smartly renewed it for a 5th season. This is ahead of finishing season 4, which they have recently added an additional 6 episodes to. The 20 episode order for season 4 is now up to 26, marking a big achievement for the show that many thought wouldn’t go further than the first season.
The reason the show is doing so well is in part to the demographics it’s reaching between the ages of 18-49, a market that USA has had trouble hitting with some shows. With the second half of season 4 premiering this fall, the show is trending downwards in popularity but will have a sharp tick upwards once the premiere inches closer.
Last year in 2015 the show was renewed for a 12 episode 4th season after it ranked in the top 10 for unscripted cable series across all viewers. The Chrisley family is quite popular, and the network is still considering producing a nighttime talk show and a spinoff pilot with characters from the show. With all of the extra love and extensions USA has been giving the family, this is a very likely deal to go through if they find the right format.
Debuting in 2014, Chrisley Knows Best is about an Atlanta multi-millionaire, his wife and their 5 children. Living in the lap of luxury isn’t all that it’s cracked up to be, and the family shows that they’re just as normal as any other family.
What are your thoughts on the quick renewal of the show? Do you think a spinoff would be worth the watch?
