Release Date of #Bookaboo S2: To be announced

International preschool hit Bookaboo is finally getting a release for U.S. audiences, via Amazon’s Amazon Prime streaming platform. This show combines puppets, celebrities, picture books, songs and animation to create a show designed to promote children and parents reading together in the show.

The central character is the titular #Bookaboo, a world-famous rock puppy and legendary canine drummer, who plays alongside band members Growler and Paws, who met together in a rescue center as orphaned puppies. However, @Bookaboo has a bit of an issue, being unable to find his “bojo” (rhythm) unless he has a book read to him first. This leads to the character’s catchphrase “A Story a day or I just can’t play.” @Bookaboo’s attempts to avoid playing without his book lead to a variety of funny songs and sketches. #Bookaboo for Amazon has been created by Lucy Goodman, Founder of Happy Films, and produced by Happy Films and Sinking Ship Entertainment (Odd Squad, Annedroids).

Part of the show’s appeal to parents is the numerous celebrities who go backstage with Bookaboo in order to read stories with him and get Bookaboo to take the stage. The extensive list of confirmed guest stars includes Paula Abdul (American Idol), Rachelle Lefevre (Twilight), Molly Parker (House of Cards), Hannah Simone (New Girl), Emily Van Camp (Captain America: The Winter Soldier), Selma Blair (Legally Blonde), Michael Sheen (The Queen), Guillermo Diaz (Scandal), WWE Wrestler Adam Copeland, NASA Astronaut Commander Chris Hadfield, and NFL player Antonio Brown of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Each story the guest reads is brought to life from both lively readings and animation.

Tara Sorensen, Head of Kids Programming at Amazon Studios, explains that Bookaboo’s exciting presentation and smart story selection combine to become an ideal way to promote literacy. “Each episode incorporates funny storytelling and great books, specifically chosen to capture young viewers’ attention and imagination.” she says. Goodman adds that only half the parents are reading with their children than they were a generation ago, making the message and format of the show a valuable service.

At the moment, unlike its international counterpart, since Bookaboo is appearing on a streaming platform, it’s unclear how exactly the show will perform in terms of viewership or what exact type of continuation it will have moving forward. However, the original Bookaboo has become a huge success abroad, and with the format basically being the same as well as more U.S.-centric celebrities, there is no reason why the show should not perform great in this incarnation as well.

Bookaboo is confirmed to debut on October 28th exclusively for Amazon Prime members. Members will also be able to stream and enjoy using the Amazon
