Keep It In The Family…
Murder is no laughing matter, and when it comes to victims of murder by family members, the crime seems all that more chilling. These are people who know each other intimately, who have lived amongst each other for lengths of time, yet somehow found a way to let hate, greed, lust, and jealousy get the best of them, and went in for the kill.
Blood Relatives is a show that highlights brutality within the family, a subject which Investigation Discovery has found to be intriguing for its viewers with ratings that continue to soar. Each episode features a family which appears completely normal from the outside, and as the crime is re-enacted on the show, it becomes a question of “whodunit” every time.
Forensics experts who originally worked these real cases are called onto the show for their input and to reflect upon the ultimate findings. The shocking truths about these crimes of passion are sometimes obvious, but often they allude authorities until the bitter end.
Narrated by Brenda Strong (Desperate Housewives), the series unravels the mystery behind murderous plots, uncovering motives and potential coercion amongst those closest to each other. President of Investigation Discovery, Henry Schleiff, shared the network’s excitement about Brenda’s narration talent on this show, saying it, “adds an emotional depth to an already compelling new series.”
The show is not new anymore, and it seems to be picking up popularity as it ages. With the fifth season now complete, and the ratings and reviews holding high, certainly Investigation Discovery will keep on renewing #BloodRelatives.
Season 5 premiered on August 25, 2016, and earned a demo rating of 0.34, placing it within the top 10 for cable networks on Thursday nights, with 1.1 million viewers checking out the newest episode. The finale on October 27, 2016, was slightly lower but still strong at 0.26 for the demo rating with 0.95 million viewers watching.
Those are some steady numbers for the network, and although at this time there hasn’t been any official announcement about a renewal for this series, it would shock viewers if the show didn’t return for a sixth season in 2017.
IMDb voters rank the series at a high 7.8 out of 10 with over 130 votes cast. That’s a really good score for a reality-documentary show about murder.
BR airs on Thursday nights at 10pm ET on Investigation Discovery. Want to stream the show instead? It can be found on several premium streaming services, such as Amazon, Hulu, and Vudu. Entire seasons and individual episodes are also available for purchase and download on the iTunes Store.
