12 Monkeys is a television show on the SyFy Network, which follows the “journey of a time traveler from the post-apocalyptic future” who travels back in time to the modern day to help eradicate a plague that has the potential to destroy the entire human race. The series is adapted from the 1995 film created by Terry Gilliam and starring Bruce Willis. The hour-long series is Executive Produced by Natalie Chaidez, Charles Roven, Richard Suckle, David Grossman, Terry Matalas, and Travis Fickett. The production company behind the series is Atlas Entertainment and Universal Cable Productions. The series originally premiered on January 16th, 2015. The second season of the series began on April 25th, 2016.
What is the television show about?
The modern day series is an adaptation off of the 1995 film of the same name. The 1995 version of ‘#12Monkeys’ (played by Aaron Stanford) was based off of the 1962 short film, La Jetee, created by Chris Marker. The series is a remake of a remake. The focus is on the time traveler, James Cole, travels from the year 2043 to the present day to try to stop the release of a deadly virus.
This virus is released by an organization called “The Army of the Twelve Monkeys”. In the life that Cole had lived through, the virus had killed 93.6% of the world’s population. When Cole returns back in time to fight the deadly virus, he is helped by the “virologist” Cassandra Railly (played by Amanda Schull) and a “math genius with mental issues”, Jennifer Goines (who is played by Emily Hampshire).

Cast members include Aaron Stanford as James Cole, Amanda Schull as Dr. Cassandra Railly, Kirk Acevedo as Jose Ramse, Noah Bean as Aaron Marker, Todd Stashwick as Deacon, Emily Hampshire as Jennifer Goines, and Barbara Sukowa as Katarina Jones.
Where did we leave off in the series?
At the end of season one, we saw Cole and Railly break in to the Raritan National Laboratories after receiving information leaked by Jennifer. Raritan Laboratories is the home of the operational time machine. At the laboratory, Cole and Railly come head to head with Ramse who is planning on traveling back to 2043. It turns out the Ramse is not the witness afterall, and both Railly and Ramse are shot. Jennifer goes on a plane trip in an apparent effort to spread the deadly virus around the world. Will there be a third season of the show?
We have not heard an official announcement yet as to whether the show will be renewed for a third season on the SyFy Network or it will be cancelled. The second season of the show was announced in January of 2016, and the season was released in April of 2016. We are guessing that the announcement of a third season could be held off as long as January 2017.
